68.69 Fall Seasonal Lottery Release

68.69 Our Seasonal Selection Series continues! Autumn commences next week, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the third exclusive cask of our new collectors’ series! With each turn of the season, American members of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society may look forward to a pitch perfect cask chosen specifically for that time of year. From pairing with seasonal fare to pouring for special occasions, Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter will bear a special cask exclusive only to our American members. Cask No. 68.69 Subtle Trickster offers a rich maltiness that plays alongside notes of citrus, honey and heather just beautifully – a perfect dram for the cooler weather cuisine and chilly nights in store!

Today’s star of the southern Highlands is one of the most visited distilleries in Scotland, although the limited number of official bottlings can only be found at the distillery. Thankfully, the Society bottles a treasure trove of liquid gold from distillery 68 for our members and each cask has its uniquely bold personality to discover! From stunning ex-bourbon casks (like today!) to hedonistic sherried releases, there’s a reason this malt has been a darling of blenders for decades…. it’s simply delicious! Last night, Tom Smith and Scott Brunow popped the cork on our fall selection – click here to view the stream on SMWSA’s YouTube channel!

Due to the expected high popularity of this release, Cask No. 68.69 will not be available for ordering today. Instead, we invite interested members to enter the raffle below for a chance to order Cask No. 68.69. Entries must be completed by Monday September 19th at 1pm ET. Winning member names will be drawn at that time. They will be contacted shortly thereafter and will have 48 hours to order their bottle (until Wednesday 9/21).

68.69 Subtle Trickster

Cask No. 68.69

Title: Subtle Trickster

Tasting Note: A classical highland style malt we thought, initially lots of canvass, putty and a fruity edge of pineapple in syrup with fruit salad chunks. Also some subtle notes of juniper, orange cordial and tangerine were noted. Playfully fruity we thought. With reduction it became more robust and bready with notes of soda bread, rapeseed oil and nettle tea. A very entertaining development. The neat palate opened with heather honey and old school shilling ales. Then a soft, herbal waxiness with orange cocktail bitters. Water
softened everything and brought a wonderfully elegant complexity with soft notes of lemon cordial, rose water and dried tarragon.
