The nose was somehow golden brown (never a frown); coconut, cocoa nibs and tobacco, molasses, figs, pecan pie and walking through autumnal orchards. The palate suggested fruit cake, Christmas pudding and Tiffin (tray-bake of crushed biscuits, raisins, chocolate etc), along with some earthier hints of hessian, clove and windfall apples. Adding water turned the nose to honeycomb, hoisin and someone smoking a cigar in a baseball locker room (leather, canvas and wood). The palate now combined maple candies, marzipan and peanut brittle sweetness with vanilla pod and five-spice barbecued pork. After ten years in ex-bourbon wood, this enjoyed extra time in a first-fill, ex-bodega, PX barrique.
