Charlie MacLean's Selection
Charlie MacLean's Selection
Enjoy this special selection of four exceptional single cask whiskies hand-picked by world-renowned Scottish whisky expert and writer Charlie MacLean! Having been involved with the Society since its early days in 1983, Charlie has been instrumental in the growth of the Society from a small gathering of whisky enthusiasts in Edinburgh to the leading international club of whisky lovers. In 1992 he became the chair of our Tasting Panel, leading the process of sampling and approving those single cask whiskies deemed outstanding enough to make it into a Society bottle.
Charlie MacLean’s Selection brings together four whiskies of four different flavour profiles hand-selected by Charlie. The maestro starts the show with Cask 41.106 Masterchef Final, a vibrant opening salvo offering orchard and bramble fruits as well as sweet and savoury accents with sublime texture on the palate. The pace quickens with Cask 2.108 ‘The King o’ Malts’ as we are impressed by this courtly concoction of silky confection, citrus fruits and a welcoming malty character. As the grand finale nears of this flavourful show, “oohs” and “ahs” can be heard as we taste Cask 36.145 Nice day for cricket, flaunting its sophisticated expression of dried and stewed fruits, prevalent oak and earthy nuances. Cask 4.243 A bothy on the burnt moor provides the mineral and floral crescendo perfect for the completion of this explosive flight. A confluence of heather, honey, chocolate, smoke and spice forms the quietly complex dram that will have you reaching for more.
